The Ohio Election Integrity Commission (OEIC) was established in 2025 to replace the Ohio Elections Commission. The five-member body has several responsibilities:
- Hears all matters referred to it
- Appoints an attorney to hear appeals
- Assess fines
- Refers cases for criminal prosecution if necessary
Within the Secretary of State’s office is the Election Integrity Unit, which investigates violations that are reported to the OEIC. Violations can occur in the following areas:
- Campaign finance
- Petitions
- Absentee voting
- Voter registration (particularly fake registrations)
- Voting without eligibility (age or citizenship)
- Voting or attempting to vote more than once
If you believe you have identified a violation, follow these steps:
- Access the complaint form on the OEIC website (see above).
- Enter your information as the complainant. The complaint cannot be anonymous.
- Complete the “Report Wrongdoing” Section. Make sure you state what occurred along with the relevant section of Ohio Revised Code.
- Complete the “Person Involved” Section. The form allows for multiple individuals to be added to the complaint.
- Upload any relevant documentation, such as video, images, official documents, or any other supporting materials.
- Review and sign the certification statement.
- Submit.
